Omona Mercy Gracy is a Ugandan mental health professional, addiction treatment and counselling practitioner, and mental health advocate with over six years of experience in mental health promotion, policy, advocacy, and psychosocial support. She currently serves as the Coordinator and Head of the Secretariat of the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Mental Health, where she provides strategic coordination and technical leadership in working with Parliament, government institutions, development partners, civil society, and communities to advance mental health policy, systems strengthening, advocacy, and access to quality mental health services.

Mercy is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology and Counselling as well as a Master of Arts in Public Administration and Resource Governance. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (Psychology Major) and a Diploma in Addiction Treatment and Counselling. She has undertaken professional training in Trauma Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), among other evidence based mental health approaches.
She is a member of the Global Mental Health Action Network and the African Suicide Prevention Association, contributing to regional and global conversations on mental health advocacy, suicide prevention, and strengthening mental health systems.
Passionate about strengthening mental health systems and promoting community based mental health solutions, Mercy has led and supported initiatives in suicide prevention, addiction recovery, trauma healing, youth empowerment, and the integration of mental health into health, education, sports, and humanitarian programming. She has played a key role in advancing mental health awareness through innovative platforms, including the Mental Health Awareness Sports Gala, which uses sports as a tool for mental health promotion, social connection, stigma reduction, and community engagement.
Through her leadership, advocacy, and programme coordination, Mercy continues to contribute to advancing inclusive, evidence based, and sustainable mental health solutions in Uganda and beyond, championing greater awareness, policy action, and access to mental health support for individuals and communities.
